My Shoes

>> 9.28.2008

Oh, I do love a nice pair of shoes. My favorites tend to have 3 inch thin heels with a round toe. I am not picky on color, because I happen to just love color. I am apt to spend more time looking for a nice pair of pumps than I am a pair of tennis shoes. For me, shoe shopping can be an arduous task at times. My shoe size varies from a 5 to a 7 depending on the shoe, but always a AAA. Basically, that means I have a very narrow foot which causes finding shoes to be quite a challenge.

I think that the shoes we were can be quite similar to the walk with have with being who we are in Christ. Let me explain.

  • My momma shoes:
Growing up, I would often go in my mom’s closet or my grandmother’s closet to try on their shoes. Placing my tiny foot inside of them, I would often clump around clumsily which would usually end up with me tumbling to the floor. But they made wearing them look so easy. They didn’t tumble like I was.

The same can be said when we try to do things that are not our calling. Each of us has special gifts and talents that God specifically put inside of us. What is simple for one person can cause another to tumble. It is important to walk in what God has designed for us.

  • The growth spurt shoes:
Boy, oh boy, do you know when a child has hit a growth spurt in their foot. Shoes that were once comfortable now hurt. You can see the discomfort written all over that person’s face. The challenge is time. When a child goes through a growth spurt, their foot can be too small for the old size but not big enough for the bigger size. So parents will sometimes buy thicker socks or have the child wear more than on pair until the foot has grown enough to fit the larger size.

Our walk in who we are in Christ is no different. We are constantly growing. As we grow, we can outgrow doing the things that we use to do to be where God wants us. Sometimes the growing phase may even hurt. When we go to that next level in Christ, we may need more prayer, more personal Bible study time, more period. Just as the child’s foot is padded, Christ has others praying on our behalf in the spirit for us during the growing phase.

  • But everyone has it shoes:
Now, these shoes are quite different. This is usually the pair of shoes that you buy on impulse, buy because others are wearing it, or buy because you let yourself get talked into it. These shoes may only match one outfit in your closet. Or worse yet, you can only wear the shoes long enough to walk from the car to the church pew where you quickly take them off. Yes, these shoes may be cute, but they serve any other purpose.

In our walk, there are many areas that seem appealing to us. There are many opportunities that only serve to be distractions for us. Sure, you may be noticed for being on the committee but what about all the energy it drains from you? These activities are opportunities for you to be drained; thus hindering from doing exactly what it is God has directed you to do.

  • Ahhh, just right shoes:
If you have ever put your foot into a shoe that fits just right, it is as if your foot says thank you. Wearing a pair of shoes that fit properly do more than just make your feet feel nice. It can keep your lower back from hurting. It can help provide the needed support for weak knees. In the right pair of shoes, you can walk for long periods of time, stand for that important meeting, praise God without the discomfort of that pinkie toe. (You know what I mean!) The right pair of shoes makes the world of difference.

When we are walking in the path God has for us, we are able to go the distance. It just fits. I am not saying that there will not be challenges, but you know in your spirit that you are in God’s timing and plan. At this place you are free to be who you are without feeling inferior, ill prepared, or inexperienced. You know that you just fit.

So ladies, I encourage you to take a look at your shoes. Check to make sure that you have the right fit for the journey God has created you for.

I'm not sure if this will post. When I view your blog it's full of Upgrade Pro so it makes it difficult to find the comment option and/or read your blog. I hope you're having a good weekend.

Needed to hear this, as always. I'm working hard on staying in the shoe God has for me, and not trying to "clump around" in the ones I know He has on the shelf for me to grow into! Patience has been a long lesson to learn.
